Getting hit in the face by a ball

You know those games that require a body to catch, throw, touch, block, or kick a ball? Or the games where you are supposed to use another instrument to hit said ball?

Yeah, sports. One of the areas in my life where I feel instantly defeated. I'm not exaggerating; in the church fellowship hall during middle school youth group I was hit in the face by a ball more than once. Instant defeat before even stepping on the field/court.

This is why I run, barre, walk, hike, and lift - no balls required, no teammates to let down.

Have you ever had a similar feeling of instant defeat?
A research article was all over the news yesterday. I saw it, my dad sent it to me, and another friend posted it. It was pretty defeating:

My exact reply to my dad was, "I just saw this headline. Makes sense, little f*ckers".

Though after reading the article, I have found a few glimmers of light:

-- This further proves that weight regain is NOT a matter of weakness, lack of willpower, or a personal failure.

-- One of the study's authors stated that there may be a time window when the fat cells will lose this memory.

--Research like this can help reduce the stigma around obesity.

-- And this is just one research study, there will be more to follow to bring more clarity and likely more debate.

Here's what I believe:
This study looked at epigenetics - how environment and behavior patterns can affect genes expression - and epigenetics are reversible.

So, if you focus on building a environment that supports leaner fat cells and a mental and emotional state that helps you build behavior patterns that support leaner fat cells - you can have leaner fat cells.

How can you do that?

-Continue to build a support network around you and your health goals
-Instead of thinking about fat cells, think about what makes your body and mind truly feel good
-Set up your kitchen to lead you to food choices you feel good about
-Focus on good protein and a variety of produce
-Move your body regularly and when you do think of how cool it is that your muscles work and your lungs breath and you can do the thing! (not about it being a punishment or calorie burn)

( I could apply many of these points to my feelings on my playing sports with balls. 🤪)

I'm counting the list above as the recipe for this week!

Love you.
